How to get a Personnummer if UE resident?
Hi, I am from the EU and would like to get a Personnummer. What do I do?
Hello Hervé, it is quite simple, though it seems complicated. First stop is Migrationsverket. As an EU/EEA-citizen you have to register that you move to Sweden. Fill in your online application at www.migrationsverket.se (info available in English, under "EU/EEA-citizens"in toolbar on the left). If you do not study or already have a job you have to provide information about a self-sufficient financial situation. Then you cannot apply online either, by the way. In that case you have to fill out the form, print and take with you to the Migrationsverket (if you live in Stockholm it is in Solna)
Then, you recieve a document from Migrationsverket by regular mail and then you can go to Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency. Take the Migrationverket document as well as your national ID-card with you. Then you receive a "personnummer", which is actually a personal tax number in the next coming weeks. More info, unfortunately and quite astonishing only in Swedish: here: http://www.skatteverket.se/folkbokforing/ovrigt/flyttain.4.18e1b10334ebe8bc80002966.html
Otherwise you can always call your embassy in Sweden, they can help you out when needed.
Cheers! Bart
