Why does the french carry their baguette under their arms?
good question asked by an Italian friend of mine. Please helps, she needs an answer.

A baguette doesn't fit in a shopping bag, so when you have a bag in each hand, the only place left for it is under our arms (I guess ...).

The baguette has to be close at hand, if a situatio arises which demands that the honor of the baugette carrier, or the carriers partner, needs to be defended = a baugette tournament - jousting to the death of either combatant, or their baguette...
